Happy Birthday Qscan

Qscan commenced in July 2006 with a tendered appointment to provide onsite Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and remote 24 hour on call reporting services for Queensland Health at the Logan Hospital Medical Imaging Department and District Health Service on Brisbane’s Southside.

In July 2007 an 800m2 practice at the Qscan Windsor Clinic, in the inner northside of Brisbane, was established providing a hospital grade comprehensive range of diagnostic and image guided medical imaging services, also offering musculoskeletal and pain management interventional procedures. The practice provided digital radiology, dental imaging, bone mineral densitometry, ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy, nuclear Medicine and 1.5 Tesla MRI. This was an unprecedented initiative, with a comprehensive multimodality medical imaging practice opening in a non-hospital location within a major suburban precinct. The result has been outstanding patient comfort and easy access with the combination of excellent parking in modern, attractive and comfortable facilities combined with the very latest in medical imaging and computer technology complimenting the radiologists and clinical team members. Shortly thereafter sites opened in Everton Park, Kedron, Cleveland, Victoria Point and Toowong.

In November 2007, Qscan opened a practice within the Mater Private Clinic featuring a Siemens Dual Source 64 slice helical CT. The site also provides digital x-ray, ultrasound and nuclear medicine services. In September 2008 a 600m2 practice at Annerley in the inner southside of Brisbane was opened. This comprehensive full service practice provides the same extensive range of imaging modalities and world-class facilities as at Windsor. In March 2009 another Qscan practice opened at Aspley. In April a specialist dental imaging practice opened within the T&G building in the Brisbane CBD. Qscan at Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast opened in August 2009 offering initially x-ray and subsequently the addition of ultrasound services. In September 2009 Qscan purchased a 4000m2 property at 6 Silvyn Street, Redcliffe and built a full service centre on the site comprising all imaging modalities. This was the first time that MRI and a full range of interventional services became available on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

Qscan was successful in retaining the Logan Hospital contract in 2010 and at the same time also won two additional major imaging and radiology reporting contracts from Queensland Health at Redlands Hospital and Redcliffe Hospital despite intense competition from much larger corporate owned radiology groups. In October 2011 Qscan expanded to the Gold Coast region. Qscan now has additional practices located at Southport and Burleigh Waters. The Southport practice offers all modalities and the partners decided to invest in the very latest technology with a 3T MRI scanner, the first in the Gold Coast region. This is a clear demonstration of the focus of the partnership in being fully prepared to invest in the highest quality patient outcomes.

Since inception we have treated over 1.4 million patients.

All radiology reporting is provided by Queensland based subspeciality trained radiologists working from one of our fully accredited Qscan practices. Each of the Qscan practices are linked by high speed (100megabit) fibre optic data links allowing real-time sub-specialty reporting with whichever radiologist is best suited to report on a particular examination from anywhere within the Qscan network at any time. The “common work list” provides Qscan with the ability to leverage our Doctors’ sub-specialisation and enables faster report turnaround.

Qscan’s latest location was launched earlier this year at Carindale, in a prominent and convenient location directly opposite Carindale Shopping Centre and Carindale’s Brisbane City Council Library.  In just 9 years, Qscan Group has come a long way, but with the public health demand for increasing use of radiology services in Queensland and Australia, there are many more exciting plans ahead for Qscan on the horizon.
