Though it is difficult for one person or company alone to make a substantial difference, we are still part of a global ecosystem, and our contributions can help shape a better future for our patients, employees, and investors.
The Qscan Group Board and Executive Management Team are committed to:
- Delivering quality corporate governance to a high standard, with transparent reporting for investors.
- Aligning operations with industry best-practice principles for the management of ESG matters.
- Benchmarking our ESG approach and performance using industry-recognised systems.
- Measuring scope 1 (direct) and scope 2 (indirect through energy) carbon emissions that arise through the Group’s operations, including defining long-term reduction targets.
- Attempting to measure scope 3 (indirect) carbon emissions that arise through the Group’s operations, including upstream and downstream emissions

Environment
Qscan is committed to reducing our carbon footprint. By operating more sustainably, we will protect the future and health of our patients, employees, and investors.

What have we done?
- Introduced energy efficient LED lighting fixtures and smart electricity distribution boards for all new clinics, with existing clinics targeted as part of a refurbishment program.
- Commenced annual emissions reporting to understand our carbon footprint and to incorporate learnings into future operations
Over the next twelve months Qscan also intends to:
- Investigate further improvements regarding waste disposal, including medical waste and recycling to reduce landfill
- Investigate technical solutions to reduce reliance on paper and film (i.e. SonoReview, e-Referrals)
- Implement sustainable sourcing requirements, including ESG principles, into future contracts and supplier assessments.
- Commence an employee awareness program regarding the importance of ESG practices at home and in the office.
Emissions
During FY22 we commenced emission reporting, to start to understand our carbon footprint and help identify areas of improvement the business can focus on in the coming years.

Next year, Qscan intends to further its reporting scope to incorporate additional Scope 3 emissions from our supply and value chain where possible and measure against previous financial years.

What have we done?
- Implemented a diversity and inclusion policy, which promotes gender diversity, merit based appointments, and equal opportunity principles
- Provided flexible work-life balance arrangements
- Introduced parental leave arrangements, promoting gender balance
- Implemented a employee wellbeing program, including mental health and domestic violence awareness campaigns
- Employed a dedicated Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator to help provide guidance and support to injured workers
- Measured, reported and improved on the number of WHS injuries and risks for patients and employees
- Distributed an annual staff survey to help identify areas of improvement within our workplace, with many recommendations actioned
- Sponsored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates to work within Qscan Group as part of their education
- Committed to reducing the risks of modern slavery within our practices, with the annual submission of a Modern Slavery Statement to the ADF.
- Partnered with Yalari Group, who also provide ongoing support through their student program, to fund two Indigenous students from regional areas for the entirety of their secondary education
Over the next twelve months, Qscan will continue to improve implemented initiatives. Qscan also intends to:
- Conduct annual audits of clinical workforce professional registrations and licences to ensure currency and protect our patients
- Provide remote communities with access to diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures, creating local job opportunities to support community growth
- Implement a Reconciliation Action Plan to foster our relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Measure patient satisfaction to identify opportunities for improvement

What have we done?
- Reviewed the members of the Qscan Board to ensure adequate representation from a gender and diversity perspective, and that the correct people are involved in shaping the future of Qscan Group moving forward.
- Developed a business plan for FY23 to implement a program of work that will grow the organisation
- Appointed a dedicated ESG representative to help drive Qscan’s future, ensuring our adherence to ESG principles for our employees, patients, and investors.
- Established leadership KPIs and targets to help embed ESG principles and practices within each department, prioritising them as part of our strategic plan.
Over the next twelve months Qscan intends to:
- Complete a gap analysis of ESG policies and practices to identify and implement effective changes across the business which align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
- Take part in the GRESB annual benchmarking report, to understand our performance and areas of improvement
- Introduce campaigns to encourage workplace reporting, such as a whistle-blower policy, to maintain high ethical standards.
