EOS Spinal and Body Imaging

EOS Imaging Scan is an innovative ultra-low dose X-ray imaging system that scans a patient whilst they are standing upright. An EOS Scan shows natural, weight-bearing posture and allows specialists to evaluate spinal alignment and interactions between the spine and the rest of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the pelvis, hips and lower limbs. The images are also used to monitor spinal alignment prior to and following spinal surgery and to create individualised treatment plans for people with spinal and musculoskeletal disorders.

An EOS Scan does not require any special preparation. Metal objects such as watches, keys, coins and jewellery will show up on the EOS Scan and will need to be removed before the scan. You may be provided with a gown to wear instead of your own clothes, as some materials and prints on clothing will show up on the EOS Scan.

You will stand upright in the EOS booth for up to 20 seconds while the EOS Scan is performed.
The EOS Scan uses two very fine X-ray beams that simultaneously capture both front and side images of your spine and body.

EOS Scan images the entire spine in less than 20 seconds and reduces the total procedure and setup time to less than four minutes. In comparison, traditional X-ray of the spine can take up to 20 minutes to perform.

EOS Imaging Scans use an innovative ultra-low dose X-ray to provide high quality images. It uses a significantly lower radiation dose of less than 10% compared to traditional X-ray.

EOS Scans at Qscan are bulk billed (no out of pocket expense) to Medicare, provided that all Medicare eligibility requirements have been met. For Chiropractor referrals, Medicare only covers the cost of one full spine X-ray (including EOS Scans) per 12 month period. Our Customer Service Team will be able to advise you of any costs involved with your EOS Scan.

Images obtained from your EOS scan are digitally recorded and stored. At Qscan, a subspecialty trained specialist Radiologist interprets the images and provides a report for your doctor within 24 hours.

Reports and images will be available electronically via the Qscan MyResults Patient Access app and web portal 7 days after your report has been processed.  If required, films are available for collection or delivery to your referring practitioner.  You will need a follow up appointment with your doctor to discuss the EOS scan results.

Qscan provides EOS Scans at the Qscan Southport (Gold Coast) and Qscan Red Hill (Brisbane) clinics.
