Qscan North Hobart's Services
X-ray
X-ray is available at Qscan North Hobart with a valid referral and creates images of the body’s internal structures and tissues, like bones and organs to assess bone fractures, dental issues, foreign objects in the body and different illnesses or injuries. Qscan clinics offer a walk-in x-ray service; contact us to confirm current walk-in availability at North Hobart.
Ultrasound
Qscan North Hobart provides a comprehensive range of ultrasound services, performed by our sonographers and reported by our radiologists. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the body, without ionising radiation. Most scans take between 15 and 30 minutes, and you are welcome to request a female sonographer or bring a support person.
Our services include:
- Abdominal ultrasound: assessing organs such as the liver, kidneys and gallbladder.
- Carotid ultrasound: examining blood flow through the neck arteries.
- Vascular ultrasound: also known as Doppler ultrasound, used to assess blood flow and investigate conditions such as deep vein thrombosis or blocked vessels. Scans of the abdominal vessels may require fasting for up to 6 hours beforehand.
Ultrasound appointments require a referral from your GP or specialist. Bulk Billing is available for pension and HCC card holders.
CT
CT (computed tomography) imaging at Qscan North Hobart uses x-rays and advanced computer processing to build detailed cross-sectional images, giving your doctor a clear view of bones, organs and internal structures. Most CT scans take around 10 to 15 minutes. Our CT services include:
- CT coronary angiography: a detailed scan of the coronary arteries, often used to investigate chest pain or cardiac risk. This scan takes around 2 hours in total including preparation and monitoring.
- CT calcium scoring: a quick, non-contrast scan that measures calcium build-up in the coronary arteries as part of cardiac risk assessment.
- National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP): low dose CT screening for eligible Australians aged 50 to 70 with a significant smoking history. Eligible patients pay no out-of-pocket cost for their screening scan under the federal program. A GP referral and enrolment through the National Cancer Screening Register are required before booking.
MRI
MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves, with no radiation, to provide detailed imaging of soft tissue, joints, the brain and internal organs. Qscan North Hobart offers extended hours for MRI appointments. Most scans take between 20-25 minutes per body region being examined, and our radiologists report each scan to help your doctor investigate neurological, musculoskeletal and abdominal conditions. If you experience claustrophobia, let our team know when you book so we can discuss the options available to you.
