Our Women’s Imaging Services
Mammography
Digital Mammography allows our physicians to examine breast tissue and can help detect breast cancer before you show any visible signs or symptoms of the disease.
Qscan also offers Contrast Enhanced Mammogram (CEM), which can provide additional information beyond a conventional mammogram, and may result in earlier detection of some cancers. A CEM exam uses contrast dye containing iodine. This dye makes it easier to find the new blood vessels which develop when cancers grow.
Ultrasound
Breast
Breast ultrasounds can help detect breast abnormalities and cancer, especially in young people, and are often used in conjunction with mammography.
Pelvic
A pelvic ultrasound assesses the uterus, ovaries, endometrium, and surrounding pelvic structures. If you are pregnant, it will provide you with images and measurements of your baby. This scan may be used to check for fibroids (muscle tumours in the uterus), polyps (thickened areas in the uterine lining), ovarian cysts or tumours, infertility, or if you are experiencing pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy ultrasounds are a series of scans performed throughout pregnancy to monitor your baby’s health and development. They can be used to confirm a pregnancy, determine the delivery date, reveal the baby’s gender, and monitor the baby’s growth throughout pregnancy.
Breast MRI
Breast MRI scans can be used to find breast cancer, or to rule out breast cancer when other abnormalities are found in the breast. They are often done after a biopsy shows cancer. Breast MRI can be used in conjunction with mammography as a screening tool for detecting breast cancer, especially in people with a high risk or family history of breast cancer. They can also be used to detect a possible leak or tear in a breast implant.
Breast biopsy
A breast biopsy is a procedure to remove a sample of breast tissue. A special needle is inserted into the breast under image guidance, and a tissue sample is removed and sent to a pathologist for testing. The results will advise whether the tissue is cancerous or not, and will help your doctor determine your treatment plan. For more information about breast biopsies, click here.
DEXA
Bone density scans, known as DEXA or BMD scans, can help to diagnose osteoporosis. The scan measures the density of your bones at the hip and spine. Women typically have smaller and thinner bones than men. As women reach menopause, their estrogen levels decrease which can cause bone loss. This means the chance of developing osteoporosis can be higher in women.
